Mexico Waves and San Diego Stingrays were crowned champions Sunday, closing four days of competition in Playa del Carmen. With one regular-season event remaining, the race to qualify for The Finals, Dec. 3–6 in Miami, is coming to a head.
Maximiliano Arce and David Gala completed an undefeated run through the men’s draw for Mexico’s second consecutive PPL title. In the women’s final, Claudia Jensen and Veronica Virseda handed Las Vegas its first loss of the event and remained unbeaten together this season.
Both first-place matches were broadcast nationally on CNBC in the United States.
Mexico Wins Back-to-Back Titles
Less than 24 hours after surviving a 13–11 super tiebreak against DC, Arce and Gala returned to Center Court to face Miami Padel Club for the men’s title. They defeated Alvaro Melendez Amaya and Jose Antonio Garcia Diestro 6-4, 7-6, completing a 3–0 tournament in front of the home crowd.
Mexico also won the title in Los Angeles. For Gala, the Playa del Carmen victory extended a perfect start to his PPL career: he is 6–0 across the two tournaments he has entered, with a title in each.
San Diego Wins the Women’s Championship
Neither pairing had lost entering the women’s final. Las Vegas had not dropped a set in Playa del Carmen; Jensen and Virseda had not lost together all season.
Jensen and Virseda kept their streak intact, defeating Raquel Eugenio Barrera and Jimena Velasco 6-2, 6-4 to win the title for San Diego. The pair is now 6–0 together in PPL play this season, with titles in New York and Playa del Carmen and wins over six different opponents.
Las Vegas had won all four of its group-stage sets while conceding just eight games. San Diego ended that run, with Jensen and Virseda winning 53.1% of their return points, the highest rate in the women’s division in Playa del Carmen.
Florida and DC Finish Third
Florida Goats’ Juan Ignacio De Pascual and Luis Hernandez Quesada defeated DC Matrix’s Alejandro “Alex” Arroyo and Valentino Libaak 0-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the men’s third-place match, putting Florida on the podium.
DC’s women also finished Playa del Carmen unbeaten. After narrowly missing the final on the group-stage tiebreakers, Marina Guinart Espana and Araceli Martinez Ibanez defeated New York Atlantics’ Sofia Saiz Vallejo and Maria Portillo 6-2, 6-4 in Sunday’s third-place match to close the tournament at 3–0.
One Regular-Season Event Remains
DC Matrix leads the season standings with 98 points, while Florida, Mexico, Toronto and San Diego have firmly positioned themselves at the top of the table with The Finals in sight.
New York currently holds sixth place with 52 points and occupies the final direct-entry position into the main draw.
Behind the Atlantics, the margin is razor-thin. Los Angeles holds seventh with 36 points, Las Vegas sits just one point behind at 35, Miami is within striking distance of the cut line at 32, and Houston remains in the hunt with 28.
That leaves four teams separated by only eight points across seventh through 10th heading into the regular-season finale.
The top six advance directly into the main draw in Miami, while seventh and eighth will have to earn their places through the preliminary round against PPL II competition. With the top seeds battling for bracket positioning and four franchises fighting for their postseason lives, the stage is set for a dramatic finish to the regular season.
