The Las Vegas Smash and DC Matrix each swept their Friday matchups in Playa del Carmen. San Diego’s Claudia Jensen and Veronica Virseda stayed unbeaten together, while Miami closed out one of the most dramatic matches of the day with a 12–10 super tiebreak win.
Las Vegas Sweeps Los Angeles
Raquel Eugenio Barrera and Jimena Velasco gave Las Vegas the lead with a 6–1, 6–2 win over Victoria Iglesias Segador and Julia Polo Bautista.
Agustín Torre and Guillermo “Guille” Jimenez Cagigas completed the sweep, beating Tolito Aguirre and Denis Perino 6–3, 6–4.
It was the Vegas men's first PPL win of the season and another step in a fast-moving year for Cagigas. Earlier in 2026, Los Angeles selected him with the ninth pick of the second round in the inaugural PPL II Draft. He later earned the opportunity to compete in the PPL with Las Vegas.
The result also brought Cagigas’ path full circle: months after Los Angeles selected him in the PPL II Draft, he earned his first PPL win in a matchup against the Beat.

Jensen and Virseda Reach 5–0
Claudia Jensen and Veronica Virseda beat Miami’s Anna Ortiz Gasco and Lucia Martinez Gomez 7–6, 6–2, improving to 5–0 together in PPL play this season.
The San Diego pair has now won every match they have played together in 2026. Their run includes victories over New York and DC during the New York group stage, followed by a three-set win over Florida in the women’s first-place match. In Playa del Carmen, they came from a set down to beat Los Angeles on Thursday before following it with Friday’s straight-set win over Miami.
Miami answered in the men’s match with a dramatic win of its own. Alvaro Melendez Amaya and Jose Antonio Garcia Diestro beat Jose David Sanchez Serrano and Jose Jimenez Casas 7–6, 6–7, 12–10, with the matchup coming down to the final points of the super tiebreak.
DC Holds Its Place Atop the Standings
DC won both matches against Houston, but neither came easily. Araceli Martinez Ibanez and Marina Guinart Espana recovered from an opening-set loss to beat Marta Barrera de la Fuente and Maria Eulalia Rodriguez 5–7, 6–4, 10–3.
Alejandro “Alex” Arroyo and Valentino Libaak then beat Ramiro Valenzuela and Alberto Garcia Trabanco 6–3, 6–7, 10–8, closing out the sweep in another super tiebreak.
The two wins kept DC atop the standings, with the Matrix entering Saturday at 4–1 in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Florida and Toronto Split
Noa Canovas and Carolina Orsi put Florida ahead with a 6–1, 6–4 win over Nuria Rodriguez and Marta Caparros Maldonado.
Toronto answered through Pablo Lijo and Francisco “Xisco” Manuel Gil. After taking the first set against Luis Hernandez Quesada and Juan Ignacio De Pascual, they dropped the second 6–1 before recovering to win the super tiebreak, 10–7.
Florida enters Saturday second in the standings, with Toronto third.
With DC still on top and the race for the top six tightening, Saturday’s matches in Playa del Carmen will be another important step toward the PPL Finals in Miami.
