The Pro Padel League arrives in Mexico on Thursday for four days at Poliforum Playa del Carmen. The Mexico Waves open before a home crowd against the New York Atlantics; Los Angeles Beat and San Diego Stingrays follow. Each matchup includes a men’s and women’s match, giving fans four matches on opening night.
Mexico Waves vs. New York Atlantics: Another meeting, a different setting
In New York, the Atlantics' Ignacio Vilariño and Javier Martínez beat the Waves' Maximiliano Arce and Franco Dal Bianco 7–6, 6–4 for third place. Arce then won the men’s title in Los Angeles alongside David Gala. Now Gala and Arce bring that championship partnership to Playa. The Waves men have reached Podium Day at both events this season, but this will be their first appearance before a home crowd.
Lucía Peralta and Patricia Martínez Fortún are looking to take the Waves women to Podium Day for the first time this season. They face the Atlantics’ Marta Talaván and Sofía Saiz Vallejo, who took third in LA.
Los Angeles Beat vs. San Diego Stingrays: Champions return
The San Diego Stingrays' Claudia Jensen and Verónica Virseda arrive in Playa as the reigning New York women’s champions. They face the LA Beat’s Julia Polo Bautista and Victoria Iglesias Segador. Iglesias finished third in New York with Aránzazu Osoro.
In the men’s division, the Beat and Stingrays are separated by just one point. LA’s Denis Tomás Perino and fan favorite Leonel “Tolito” Aguirre face San Diego’s José David Sánchez Serrano and José Jiménez Casas.
What’s at stake beyond opening night
Thursday begins group play. Each team plays twice in the men’s division and twice in the women’s, with the top four in each advancing to Podium Day. How they finish in Playa will earn points toward their franchises’ overall standings, which combine men’s and women’s results and determine the route to The Finals in Miami.
Mexico enters fourth overall with 44 points, New York fifth with 40 and San Diego sixth with 39. Los Angeles is seventh with 26. The top six franchises qualify directly for the main draw at The Finals; seventh and eighth must play a preliminary round. San Diego currently holds the last main draw qualifying place, and LA is trying to close the gap. Both begin that work on Thursday.
