AUGUST 13, 2024, SAN DIEGO – Today, the Pro Padel League (PPL), North America’s first and only professional padel league, is unveiling the official team rosters for their final event of the 2024 regular season taking place in San Diego at the award-winning Barnes Tennis Center. Set to start on Monday, August 19th, at Taktika Padel, the action-packed week of matches will feature some of the most decorated, and iconic, male and female professional padel players from around the world. 

Showcasing the game’s best padel players and powerhouses, over 60% of the players in the PPL are ranked top 50 in the world. These include Ariana Sanchez (world no. 1, Miami Padel Club) Pablo Lima (former no. 1, Flowrida Goats), Juan Martín Díaz (no. 1 for 14 years, New York Atlantics), Fede Chingotto (no. 8, New York Atlantics), Miguel Lamperti (former no. 2, San Diego Stingrays), Agustin Tapia (no. 4, Miami Padel Club), and Marta Ortega (former no. 1, current no. 6, Las Vegas Smash).

“Our final event of the regular season in San Diego is going to have unbelievable competition and intense, exciting matches,” said Marcos del Pilar, PPL Commissioner. “We are looking forward to an incredible week of matches and seeing which PPL teams qualify for the PPL Cup in November.”

Top players in the League making their PPL debut this season in San Diego include Federico Chingotto (New York, world no. 8), Martin Di Nenno (Orlando, world no. 5), Alejandra Salazar (Cancun, world no. 7), and Tia Norton (Las Vegas, no. 2 in Great Britian).

The only professional padel league to showcase the best male and female athletes, team roster highlights for the upcoming event in San Diego include:

  • Miami: Arizpe no. 8 in the U.S. and Paloma Cortina no. 6 in the U.S.
  • Las Vegas: Marta Ortega world no. 6 and former world no. 1 and former world no. 29 Guga Vazquez
  • Los Angeles: Tolito Aguirre world no. 5 and Jessica Castello world no. 8
  • New York: Federico Chingotto world no. 8, Tamara Icardo world no. 10, and Virginia Riera world no. 12
  • Orlando: Gemma Triay Pons world no. 3, Martin Di Nenno world no. 5, and Aranzazu Osoro world no. 13
  • Arkansas: Patricia Llaguno Zielinski world no. 17
  • Toronto: Coki Nieto world no. 17 and Victoria Iglesias world no. 21
  • Cancun: Carlos Daniel “Sanyo” Gutierrez world no. 10, Alejandra Salazar world no. 7, and Veronica Virseda Sanchez world no. 14.

From August 19th-25th, ten PPL teams representing some of the most iconic cities in North America will compete for a chance to qualify for the PPL Cup including the Las Vegas Smash, Cancun Waves, Miami Padel Club, Flowrida Goats, San Diego Stingrays, Los Angeles Beat, Arkansas Matrix, Toronto Polar Bears, New York Atlantics, and Houston Volts.

Starting Monday, August 19th, round-robin matches will take place through Friday, August 23rd, with the semifinals being held on Saturday, August 24th and the final on Sunday, August 25th. The competition format will include men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and a mixed doubles match. Tickets are now available and include general admission, reserved seating, VIP, and week-long passes.

Concluding the final PPL regular season event in San Diego, the top eight teams in the League standings will advance to the PPL Cup being held in November. At the top of the PPL team standings are the Los Angeles BEAT (ranked no. 1) and the Miami Padel Club (ranked no. 2) who each captured a regular season event title in Miami earlier this year in April. Following close behind them are the Las Vegas Smash (ranked no. 3) and the Flowrida GOATS (ranked no. 4) who were both finalists in Miami. The Arkansas Matrix, New York Atlantics, and Toronto Polar Bears all captured third and fourth-place finishes. Those teams looking to make a strong comeback in San Diego and secure a spot in the PPL Cup include the hometown team and hosts, the San Diego Stingrays, the Cancun Waves, and the Houston Volts.

The mission of the PPL is to create the most compelling version of padel for sports fans in North America with the new league providing the biggest stage for professional padel players across the continent. The PPL is the first of its kind, and the only professional padel league in the world, to feature team-based competition in a unique and engaging, city-based, franchise format.
