With a rain delay Saturday pushing the mixed doubles match between the Cancun Waves and the San Diego Stingrays to Sunday, both teams were back on the court Sunday morning at 9am playing at peak performance. Going neck-and-neck until the very end, the mixed doubles match eventually came down to the deciding third set tiebreaker with Cancun finally pulling ahead to take the lead and win over San Diego. With their win over San Diego, Cancun also secured their spot in the top four to advance to the semifinals of the PPL season next weekend.
In the last team matchup of the regular season play for the inaugural PPL season, the Las Vegas Smash took on the Los Angeles Beat. With Vegas winning the women’s doubles match, and LA winning the men’s doubles match, the two teams also played a deciding mixed doubles match. Following a tight second set, Vegas was able to hold off LA in a straight set win that also secured them the last spot in the top four.
Rounding out the top four teams set to take on each other in what is set to be a blockbuster, super Saturday, semifinal showdown next weekend are: Miami, Arkansas, Cancun and Las Vegas.
